His job in journalism has taken him all over the country from Columbia, Missouri, at KMIZ as a reporter, and a Weekend Anchor in Pocatello, Idaho, and at KPVI prior to landing in Sacramento at KCRA in 1998.
During his return to California, he covered major stories from the Yosemite killings and arrest of Cary Stayner, the Ted Kaczynski “Unabomber” trial, the recall and the election of Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, and California wildfires.
In 2005, Ryan made the jump from the news to pursue a lifelong dream of becoming a Sports Anchor. He first commenced in San Diego at KSWB prior to returning to Sacramento at KXTV where he had a chance to cover the 49er’s Super Bowl appearance in New Orleans, the Golden State Warrior’s NBA Championships, and the Giants’ three World Series titles.
His appreciation and passion for sports go beyond just being a fan. In college, Ryan was an actual employee of the Golden State Warriors (too short to play). During the RUN TMC days, he operated the music and animation board on game days. Along with a profession in broadcasting, one of his proudest moments was becoming a first-time filmmaker.
Outside of work, Ryan trained for nearly 2 decades in martial arts in muay Thai kickboxing, and boxing. He also considers himself an avid runner. In December of 2021, he painfully finished his first marathon in Honolulu.
Ryan is a member of the NATAS and is honored to be a five-time Emmy winner and multiple nominees for both anchoring and reporting. He is also a long-time member of the Asian American Journalists Association.
